When is the best time to cruise to Alaska?
Alaskan cruises are offered from May to September. Late June to early August typically have the driest, warmest weather with July being the peak. The weather is very unpredictable all summer and can change quickly, so it's best to dress in layers. Heavy downpours of rain aren't common, but periods of mist and sunshine can alternate throughout the day. Cruise prices tend to be lower in May and September, so some people prefer to go then.
What is the weather like in Alaska?
In the Inside Passage, temperatures can get into the high 70s during the day and low 40s at night. Wind can be a big factor in making those temperatures seem cooler. Temperatures near the glaciers are significantly cooler. I've had clients go in May and have temperatures in the mid 80s even. It's not as cold as people may think, but it is cooler than summer months in the lower 48 states for sure.
Is cruising affordable and a good vacation value?
Cruising is the best vacation value and the best way see Alaska. Most of Alaska's main attractions skirt the ocean, making them easily accessible by cruise ships. For cruises sailing roundtrip from Seattle or San Francisco, US citizens may cruise with a passport or a birth certificate. Passports are required for cruises beginning or ending in Vancouver since land or air travel into or out of Canada will be required.

During the day, there are many different dining options including in the formal dining room, on deck, in a pizzeria, at a buffet, or at an espresso bar, just to name a few. To choose, just decide whether you prefer to dine early or late and specify your choice at the time of booking. Whichever seating you choose, remember that one of the best ways to make new friends is to ask for a large table. In addition, some ships offer alternative dining options. It's better than you've heard. You'll find a varied selection of entrees, appetizers, salads, soups, vegetables, and desserts prepared by world class chefs every time you sit down. And, there's no limit on what or how much you can order. Can't decide between the steak or the lobster? Have both!
Just because the cruise lines offer plenty of delicious food doesn't mean that you'll come home out of shape. You can choose low-cal, low-carb, spa, or fitness menu selections that are just as tempting as the regular menu.

Gratuities are an optional charge for your cruise. They vary by cruise line, but are about $13 per day, per person.
